Age Doesn’t Defy Your Love of Learning

Age Doesn’t Defy Your Love of Learning

There’s a quote out there that goes “You can do anything you put your mind to.” This is quite obvious to see when looking at 99-year-old Doreetha Daniels. She just graduated from college!

Daniel’s has long held a love of learning and she always knew that one day she had hoped to graduate from college. She just never knew that life would take her through the scenic route of education. It wasn’t easy for her to pursue her dream of graduating college. Throughout her life things kept her from pursuing her education. Daniels has lived through more events than most of us can even begin to imagine. She has struggled but now she has persevered. There are too many to name but one big one that she struggled through was The Great Depression.

According to the Huffington Post, Daniel’s had started her college journey in 2009 but a variety of obstacles got in her way. She was just now able to graduate from the College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, California. Daniels received an associate degree in social sciences. It’s truly a treat to see an older woman admit that we never stop learning. Daniels had this one thing left on her to do list for life and she would not have been happy unless she got it accomplished.

Out of all of the moments in her life, she states that this has been her biggest accomplishment. It’s easy to see why. This is something that she has wanted her whole life and to finally accomplish that is gratifying. She didn’t let anything or anyone stop her. She didn’t listen to any stereotypes that said she was too old to do it. Instead, she believed in herself and proved that you’re never too old to stop learning.

Overall, this is a woman that we can take inspiration from. She wasn’t going to let her age stop her from doing anything. This gives hope to any of us who are worried about getting older. It shows that we can still get out there and do things that we set our mind too. We don’t have to stop living and experiencing life just because society tells us that we are too old. It’s good to set goals and try and accomplish them no matter what setbacks you experience in life.
