Free Hugs and Donuts Have A Big Impact

The city of Charlotte was on edge after an officer-involved shooting occurred there. It was a time of unrest, uncertainty, and fear. During times of turmoil, beautiful things can emerge. That’s exactly what happens in the midst of all of this. One small boy from Charlotte made a big difference in the hearts of some police officers.

After police officers were hurt during the unrest in Charlotte, 5-year-old Jayden knew he had to do something. It upset him to know that all of these bad things were happening in the world. For being so small, Jayden is wise beyond his years. He told his parents that he needed to help and that’s how a simple yet beautiful idea was born.

As a 5-year-old, Jayden doesn’t know much about the world, but he knows how to make people happy. He told his parents that he wants to give police officers hugs so that they aren’t scared. It’s a simple thought from a child that many of us as adults wouldn’t think to do. It’s absolutely heartwarming, however.

According to Reddit, little Jayden lives right where the shooting and all of the subsequent protests took place. He heard all of what was happening right outside his window and of course had many questions for his parents. They explained the best they could and soon Jayden had one more request. He wanted to hug polices officers and give them his favorite donuts. The family stopped by the police department with Jayden who had a free hugs sign hanging around his kneck. It wasn’t long until many of the officers were in tears.

Sometimes during a scary period in time, the innocence of a child is needed to remind people of what’s truly good in the world. Jayden knew nothing about color and just wanted to be a light during a dark time. The officers loved his kind soul and it was exactly what they needed to see to be reminded that there is still good in the world.
