Michael “Mike” Burwell was recently named as Willis Tower Watson’s new CFO upon Roger Millay’s voluntary retirement in October 2017. Willis Tower Watson is known as an insurance and reinsurance broking specialist and global advisory company across the world. They specialize in risk management and benefit optimization. The company announced the news over the summer.
Mike Burwell, a CPA, received his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Michigan State University in 1986. He spent the next 31 years at Pricewaterhouse Coopers LLC (PwC) where he gained extensive and international financial and professional insights, all the way to Partner in 2016.
His first 11 years with PwC focused on audit clients. Mike worked extensively on assurance practice. His focal point shifted in 1997 when he was admitted to PwC’s partnership and opened their transaction services practice in Detroit. He spent the next 12 years expanding his knowledge in this field by advising clients on issues like pre-merger due diligence and valuation. Michael was successful, and PwC appointed him to run the central region. He went on to become the overall US Transaction Services Leader.
In 2008, Michael Burwell was officially made the Chief Financial Officer of PwC; he also became the firm’s COO for The United States. He assumed both positions from 2009-2012. Burwell began his international career in earnest in 2012 when PwC appointed him the Vice Chairman Global and U.S. Transformation Leader. His main role helped streamline many internal processes such as human capital, finance, and technology and global strategic sourcing. Mike became a full partner at PwC in 2016.
